Everworld...Inappropriate

Well when I was a strapping young lad I loved animorphs so much. And when I heard that the author was writing another story I was excited to read it. But I was totally shocked by the curseing and sexuality, It was a while ago but I think there was a drunk god? Did anyone else run into this?

I remember being surprised by the vulgarity. As the series progressed there were definite sexist, racist, and anti-semitic overtones as well. And yes, Dionysus (the Greek god of wine and women) was a main character near the end of the series.
Somehow, though, I think all of this made the series feel more 'real'. I read Everworld when I was in high school, and the language that was used and the issues that were faced (besides the whole Loki trying to kill them bit) were very realistic to that age. Yes, it was a bit inappropriate - but so are many 17-year olds. If you read through the series most of the time it is Christopher being vulgar, and he is the epitome of that jack-off in class who won't shut up.

I didn't think it was THAT bad, but I certainly agree that Everworld was intended for slightly older readers than Animorphs was. I actually enjoyed the change though.

Yes, I think you should re-read it... I read it about 4 years ago (so I was about 19) and I wasn't really shocked. I really don't like racist and sexist people (even if I'm a little sexist sometimes lol )... but it's more realistic. And as you said, this books was for older people than Animorphs, so it's normal... Heroes who are always good, happy ends and everything like that make me angry when they're too many ! Now I like bad ends, where heroes die (thank to Korean movies !! Old Boy, Sympathy for Mister Vengeance, Musa/the Warrior... ) and when they aren't so kind and good !! Because it's more real ^_^

I bought the first two Everworld books when they came out. I think I was in fifth grade then. I read the first one, thought it was okay but I didn't like all the cursing and sexual stuff so I stopped reading. In high school I went back and finished the series.
I haven't reread it since then--I plan to this summer--but from what I remember, book 6 handled the racism issue really interestingly.

The thing that really had me P-O'ed was the anti-ending. It was so...un-final. It was not so much an ending as a stop, don't go on, sort of thing.

I think Katherine likes the no-ends It's the same for Animorphs, she didn't want a true end... I don't know for Remnants and her other series...

Yeah, the ending was definitely bad...because it wasn't there. Animorphs at least had a little bit of closure, Everworld didn't. However, I think that it was a good ending point maybe for....part one of the series or something. The part involving Senna was over, but it left so many unanswered questions and new possibilities.
And you can't find any fanfic on Everworld that isn't slash. Grr.

I'm currently really annoyed because our public library is missing the second book in the series. It's not even in the system! They just never had it or it's been missing for so long they took it out. Seems like they have all the rest too.
So I did read the 1st one earlier this year, but ever since then have been stalled on the series because I don't want to just skip a book. Typically when I have done that it hasn't gone so well.

Yeah, it never ceases to amaze me how people complain so much about how K.A. concluded Animorphs, but Everworld was just oh-so-acceptable.
Animorphs had an awesome ending.
Everworld was an incredibly engrossing series while it lasted, but the conclusion post-April-stabbing-Senna was god-awful.

Yeah, I almost wish it had ended with the previous book. It would have been much less anti-climatic.

I thought it ended on a nice note. Yeah, the last book wasn't the climax, but it had the poignancy thing down. And I read somewhere some reviewer describing how Everworld can be seen as a metaphor for the world of adulthood, and from that angle the ending seems appropriate at least.
